asks:
what does the ring on your finger mean?

That’s a lovely question, I wish I got more people asking me things and stuff!

The ring in question is this one:

(my friend Annaliese and I being awesome at a club in Italy)

I suppose there’s two sides of asking what it means, because there’s the traditional meaning and story behind it, but also the story of why I wear a ring and what it means to me.

The ring is a puzzle ring, it’s made up of 6 separate metal loops that if you know how, can be assembled to make the ring wearable. If you don’t know how, it’s kinda just frustrating.

I bought mine while I was on my 4 month holiday in Europe, when I was in Florence at the leather work store we were taken to.

We were told the tradition started in Italy and that if Italian men were going to war, they would give their wives/girlfriends these rings to wear on their ring finger with the idea being that if they ever cheated, they wouldn’t be able to get the ring back on because it would fall apart.

But to me, it means something a bit different. I’ve worn a ring on that finger since I was.. maybe 15/16? A quick shimmy through my facebook photos provides this:

That’s just a plain silver band, but it meant a lot to me because it was given to me by my friend Jordan simply because I had at one point mentioned that I liked it. Jordan continues to be one of my very best friends who I care about immensely and hope to have as a close friend for the rest of my life.

I wore it every single day, and on the odd occasion I go through my old facebook photos, I notice that I am wearing that ring in 99% of them that were taken prior to me going to Europe.

To me, though, this particular ring reminds me of the amazing times I had living in England/Europe for 4 months, all the amazing people I met, all the crazy things I got up to and all the beautiful places I saw. It means a lot to me and I hope to wear it for a very long time.

Thanks for asking, I like telling stories! I’d love it if I got more of these :)
